Celine’s Business Took Off After She Conquered Self-Doubt
After college, Celine found herself on a path that led her exactly where she needed to go. In her second semester, she joined a co-op program designed to give students real-world skills. Through this program, she was assigned to a local physiotherapy clinic, where she met her first great mentor.
The clinic owner was an outstanding therapist and leader. She taught Celine the ins and outs of patient care and running a busy clinic. Celine thrived in hands-on work, especially helping patients with their self-care exercises, which inspired her to pursue a career in rehabilitation.
However, Celine faced a dilemma. She loved the work but wasn’t sure she could handle the financial challenges of physiotherapy school. Her mentor saw her passion and suggested an alternative path: massage therapy.
Taking the advice, Celine enrolled in a massage therapy program. To her surprise, it exceeded her expectations.
Upon graduating, Celine’s mentor introduced her to a massage therapist who owned a clinic. Celine went to work for this massage therapist, who became another key mentor in her journey. She pushed Celine to put herself out there and helped her secure work at a local hospital treating neurological and rehabilitation patients. During this time, Celine also provided massage therapy to friends and family in their homes as a small side gig, though it wasn’t something she took seriously. Despite loving the work, Celine still doubted her ability to run her own business.
When the COVID pandemic hit, Celine’s world shifted. The massage clinic she worked for closed permanently, leaving her juggling multiple jobs with no time for family or friends. To make things more difficult, her new job required a long, exhausting commute.
Feeling stuck, Celine shared her frustrations with her therapist. She knew something needed to change but didn’t know how to make it happen. Working for herself had never seemed like an option—she didn’t think she knew how to run a business, let alone make home visits her full-time job.
That’s when her therapist asked a pivotal question: “What would it take to do home visits full-time?” Celine had never seriously considered the idea, but they spent the session mapping out what it would take. To her surprise, it wasn’t out of reach. With a few more clients, the right software, and a reliable car, she realized she could turn her side hustle into a full-time business.
Encouraged by this new vision, Celine started talking to friends and family about her services. At social events and gatherings, she casually mentioned her work, which led to a stream of referrals. In just a short time, her home visits grew from six a month to forty.
Today, Celine runs a successful home-visit practice, with more time to spend with the people she cares about. What once seemed impossible is now her reality.
One of the key items on Celine’s list to build a serious business was software. Up until then, she had patched together different tools to manage her side hustle: one app for scheduling, another for payments, and a filing cabinet full of paper SOAP notes. This system worked when she saw only a couple of clients a week, but it wasn’t sustainable for a full-time practice.
Having worked in multiple clinics that used clinic management software, Celine already knew the value of streamlining her processes. She just needed to find software that fit her needs and her budget.
Celine compared two systems she had used in the past: Jane and ClinicSense. The choice was clear. Jane was too expensive and designed for larger practices, while ClinicSense was affordable and had all the features she needed. Since the last time she used it, ClinicSense had rolled out numerous updates, making it even better.
Committed to making her business work, Celine paid for a year of ClinicSense upfront. She transitioned to a fully digital system, customizing her SOAP notes, and linking her payment processor. With ClinicSense, Celine had everything in place to run a successful full-time practice.
