Katrina Magbie
She wanted a new challenge and she found it.
Katrina will never forget her first massage. It was 2005, she was pregnant with her first child, and her prenatal massage left a lasting impression. The experience was blissful, and it sparked a new appreciation for massage therapy she hadn’t known was missing.
Fast forward to 2015, and Katrina is a dedicated mother and seasoned healthcare worker with the State of North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services. With nearly 20 years in mental health, she’s made a meaningful impact on the lives of others. But despite her dedication and the importance of her work, Katrina found herself feeling unchallenged. She was ready for something new, though she wasn’t quite sure what that would look like.
One day, while waiting in line at the store, she began flipping through a job finder magazine. She wasn’t expecting much, but instead of a job listing, she stumbled upon a career opportunity: an ad for the local massage therapy school.
Curious, Katrina called the school and scheduled a meeting with the program coordinator. She learned about the curriculum, the demands, and the class start dates, which were twice a year, in April and August. She mentioned she’d likely wait until August, but the coordinator had a different idea. “No,” she insisted, “I think you need to enroll in April.”
With that encouragement, Katrina took the leap. Within weeks, she was on the path to a new career, combining her love for helping others with her newfound passion for massage therapy.
After working as a massage therapist for a couple of years, Katrina knew it was time to start her own practice. She’d always dreamed of running a business, even before discovering her path in massage. The thought of creating her own schedule and shaping her own practice fueled her ambition, but she had no experience as a business owner.
Determined, Katrina enrolled in Rock Your Massage Practice Academy, a program to help therapists succeed in business. Guided by a mentor who kept her accountable, Katrina learned to transform her vision into a reality.
Today, Katrina’s practice, Tarheel Therapeutic Massage, has been thriving for over three years. She runs her practice solo, with support from an independent contractor who joins her for couples' massage sessions. Looking ahead, she’s aiming to expand and open a second location within the next five years.
When Katrina first opened her practice, managing bookings quickly became a struggle. She was constantly answering emails and missing calls from potential clients eager to schedule, likely losing out on appointments from those who didn’t want to leave a message. The back-and-forth phone tag was exhausting and took up valuable time she wanted to spend on growing her business.
Katrina knew she needed a solution—a system that would allow clients to book on their own through her website. After exploring her options, she found ClinicSense.
With ClinicSense, everything changed. Scheduling became seamless, calls decreased substantially, and even her least tech-savvy clients found it easy to book online. ClinicSense didn’t just solve her scheduling problem; it transformed her business, creating a better experience for her and her clients alike and freeing Katrina to focus fully on what she loves—helping people.
